It may be cold outside but it’s heating up in the kitchen with our sensational Autumn-Winter menu, championing local in-season produce.
We asked Head Chef, Chris Henderson, what seasonal produce he is loving in June and fennel is at the top of his list.
“Fennel is great at the minute. We’re using it in our salads everyday right now. Our pork belly entrée dish features an apple and fennel puree – it gives a great aniseed hit”
Naturally, we’re loving every dish on our Autumn-Winter menu, but with so much variety to choose from, which ones should you serve at your event? We asked Chris to design a ‘Chef’s selection’ menu as inspiration for those with upcoming events at Zinc. Of course, fennel features in the side dish and even the dessert!

Our team delivered a huge THIRTY ONE EVENTS and welcomed 6,254 GUESTS through our doors in the month of March.
We’re going to put it simply – March was a vibe! The venue was abuzz with International Women’s Day events, business networking lunches, cocktail parties, breakfast and lunch presentations, graduation dinners, forums, conferences, sporting club events, association gala dinners, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival events at both Deakin Edge and Zinc and a number of absolutely exquisite weddings.
Despite the industry still facing challenges caused by isolation periods and subsequent staff shortages, we are pleased to be back in the full swing of events and after a tumultuous couple of years, are excited to be celebrating the fact! We are incredibly proud of our team for embracing the return of events and delivering them with such passion – it’s clear to see we’ve all missed it.

There are so many photography styles to choose from – contemporary, romantic, classic, whimsical…and the list goes on. You’ve likely scoured Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration and know all too well that your photography locations play a huge part in setting the scene for your chosen style. It’s little wonder that couples place such an emphasis on getting the perfect photos on their special day, as they’re the one thing that you’ll re-visit for years to come.
This is the exact reason that you should consider the logistics of your photography locations. While your guests are enjoying the bar and canapes, you don’t want to risk being stuck in traffic making your way from location to location or clocking up the miles in your heels (a recipe for blisters before the party has even begun) and coaxing a hungry and thirsty Bridal Party along for the ride. Not to mention having to put your faith in the ever-unpredictable Melbourne weather. Be sure to pack your umbrellas, ponchos, personal fans and sunscreen as you never quite know what you will get.
To make sure that your special day is as stress-free and relaxed as possible while ensuring your wedding album is everything that you dreamed it to be, we’ve put together our top tips for selecting your photography locations. So, without further ado…
Keep the number of locations to a minimum
It’s best to keep it simple and select only one or two locations that have the potential for a variety of different shots. Think parkland that has a river or lake, so you can capture the romance and tranquillity of nature as well as having the option of a waterside backdrop. Or you could opt for an inner-city block that boasts unique street scapes, historic buildings and picturesque cafes or bars. If there is an iconic landmark that you have your heart set on, make sure you do your research to find other potential photo opportunities in the immediate area.
Make the most of your venues and their surrounds
Use the location of your venues to your advantage. Beautiful images of your ceremony are a given – but don’t forget about your reception venue. So much of your careful planning goes into creating your dream space for the celebration, so make sure that you allow time for photos at the venue. Use bars, bridal rooms, venue architectural elements or feature furniture to your advantage as well as outdoor decks or balconies and the venue surrounds to capture special moments between the two of you. The bonus – you and your Bridal Party will have time to rest your feet, touch up your makeup and sip on some bubbles!
Trust the professionals
If you’re using a local photographer, they’ll more than likely have a good idea of photography locations near your venue. If you’ve loved their work enough for you to book them for your special day, then heed their advice when it comes to locations. They may come with a secret spot that you haven’t even thought of.
While we’re talking top tips, we may just know of a venue that ticks all your photography location boxes and more. Picture yourself arriving at your event space before your guests and experiencing that ‘wow’ moment as you enter the room for the first time – all set exactly as you as you envisioned it. Your photographer captures this moment and can shoot all the little details that are about to make your celebration so special. Meanwhile, your Bridal Party settles themselves into the Bridal Room to rest their feet and enjoy some canapes and drinks to get the party started. Then it’s time to step outside and have some fun with the photography! Just footsteps from the venue you’ll capture those precious moments along the Yarra River with the historic boatsheds, Princes Bridge, the Arts Centre and Federation Square as your backdrop. Wander a little further and you’ll find Flinders Street Station and the sought-after laneway backdrops of Hosier Lane and Degraves Street.
So, if you really want to make your special day one to remember, with photography to match, then the decision is an easy one – book your Wedding at Zinc at Federation Square. Contact our Sales Team to arrange a site inspection and discuss your dream day – 03 9229 6300 or [email protected]
